    4. Registration
  • As a general rule a vehicle must be registered before it can be used on roads. Vehicles can only be registered in one name. This can be an individual or corporate name.
  • It is illegal to drive an unregistered vehicle on roads unless an exception applies.
  • One exception applies when you need to drive your car to a registration office in order to obtain a registration. If you need to obtain registration for your vehicle you may still be able to drive your car or other light vehicle to the place of registration while it is unregistered but not under any other circumstances. To ensure that you remain within the law you must drive directly to the nearest registry, car mechanics or your insurers and only between these locations in order to complete the registration process. Once completed you will be issued with a certificate of registration.
  • The penalties for driving an unregistered vehicle where this exception does not apply can include fines, police removal of the number plates or police seizing the vehicle.
