T2. How a Lawyer Can Helphe main role that lawyers play in road transport and accidents law is to assist drivers who have allegedly infringed licensing and registration requirements or other road rules. Lawyers will be able to assist road users with accessing information about their rights and the options available to keep them on the road. Lawyers also assist drivers who have been involved in road accidents. For more information see our Accident Compensation Law, Vehicle & Motor Accident Law and Personal Injury Law topics.

In some instances your state or territory licensing authority may refuse your application for a driver’s licence. A lawyer will be able to explore your options for obtaining a driver’s licence. Should your car not obtain the relevant registration to be legally driven on a road a lawyer will work with the licensing authorities to make your car roadworthy.

If you have been sold an un-roadworthy or prohibited vehicle a lawyer will be able to advise you of the options available to you under consumer law and assist you with having the matter rectified either with direct negotiation or through the tribunals or courts. For more information see our Consumer Law topic.

Certain categories of road users like primary producers or heavy transport users are subject to different rules and regulations depending on the class of vehicle they are operating. A lawyer can assist these road users to fully understand their rights and responsibilities and assist them when things go wrong.
