    16. Proxies
  • A proxy is when you authorise someone else (it can be anyone) to vote on your behalf if you are unable to do so yourself.
  • In NSW there is no limit to how many proxies one owner can hold.
  • This can give one person a lot of power when it comes to voting if they can convince a large number of absent owners to appoint them as proxy.
  • To appoint a proxy you must provide the Secretary with a valid and completed proxy form which can be downloaded from the NSW Department of Fair Trading website: http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/biz_res/ftweb/pdfs/About_us/Forms/Proxy_appointment.pdf.
  • You will need to ensure that you are not in arrears of your strata levies.
  • For small strata schemes proxy can be given before or at the meeting. For larger schemes it must be provided at least 24 hours prior to the meeting.
