3. Available Benefits

- A variety of benefits, services and payments in respect of service-related injuries or deaths are available through Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) to Australian Defence Force (ADF) veterans and their dependants.
- If the period of your service occurred on or after 1 July 2004 the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Scheme applies. If the service in question was rendered before 1 July 2004 then the Comcare Scheme applies.
- The benefits available to eligible persons under these two schemes include:
- medical, psychosocial and vocational services, programs and payments;
- periodic and lump sum compensation payments for non-economic loss such as pain and suffering due to permanent impairment;
- periodic compensation payments on account of any reduced ability to work;
- pensions;
- aids and equipment such as motor vehicle modifications;
- home and household services and assistance;
- attendant care services;
- telephone, utilities and clothing allowances;
- death benefits including funeral and bereavement payments;
- repatriation health cards; and
- payments to dependents.
