  • A variety of benefits, services and payments in respect of service-related injuries or deaths are available through Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) to Australian Defence Force (ADF) veterans and their dependants.
  • If the period of your service occurred on or after 1 July 2004 the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Scheme applies. If the service in question was rendered before 1 July 2004 then the Comcare Scheme applies.
  • The benefits available to eligible persons under these two schemes include:
    • medical, psychosocial and vocational services, programs and payments;
    • periodic and lump sum compensation payments for non-economic loss such as pain and suffering due to permanent impairment;
    • periodic compensation payments on account of any reduced ability to work;
    • pensions;
    • aids and equipment such as motor vehicle modifications;
    • home and household services and assistance;
    • attendant care services;
    • telephone, utilities and clothing allowances;
    • death benefits including funeral and bereavement payments;
    • repatriation health cards; and
    • payments to dependents.
