    15. Rehabilitation
  • Rehabilitation is designed to assist former Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and others who have sustained an injury or contracted a disease as a result of ADF service. It also aims to meet the criteria stipulated by the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Scheme or the Comcare Scheme.
  • The aim of rehabilitation is to get the person back to the same physical, psychological, social, vocational and educational state that they enjoyed before being injured or becoming ill.
  • If you are eligible a rehabilitation program will be developed in close collaboration with you and the rehabilitation worker. The program will set out the services you require and the objectives of the program. A rehabilitation program will be entirely geared towards your particular circumstances but may include one or more of the following:
    • assistance in the home to support and improve your daily functioning;
    • counselling;
    • hospital services;
    • medical services;
    • occupational therapy;
    • physical training;
    • physiotherapy;
    • psychiatric services;
    • psychosocial assistance;
    • provision of aids and appliances; and
    • vocational assessment, training and rehabilitation work preparation activities.
  • You will work closely with various health and educational service providers to complete your rehabilitation program. These programs can range in length of time depending on the degree of rehabilitation required.
