9. Skilled Migrant Visas

- There are a number of visas in the skilled visa segment which has a slightly different procedure.
- Some changes have been made to this class of visa in order to save time and ensure efficient flexibility catering to Australia’s labour needs.
- The program is called SkillSelect and has been in place since 2012.
- The kinds of visas that can be applied using this program are the:
- Business Talent (Permanent) visa (subclass 132);
- Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188);
- Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189);
- Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190); and
- Skilled Nominated or Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 489).
- If an employer has nominated an interest in you as a skilled employee the appropriate visas would be the Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457) and either the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) or its regional equivalent (subclass 187).
