    4. Making Your Application
  • Decide on which visa is the most suitable for you. If in doubt you can consult an immigration or migration lawyer for advice. You may also wish to seek the help of a registered migration agent which can act as your authorized representative in making the visa application.
  • Complete the appropriate visa application form for your visa type. Include one photograph for temporary visas such as a Visitor visa or two photographs for a long-term visa such as a Partner visa.
  • Submit a copy of your passport with the application. Ensure that you copy every page of your passport that has been stamped and that the whole page is visible in the photocopy. Provide two copies of the bio-data page of your passport.
  • Provide all the supporting documents relevant to the visa that you are applying for.
  • Before submitting your application for a visa you should photocopy all the documents and forms and keep a copy for your own reference.
  • Lodge all the forms including all the supporting documents at the relevant overseas post of the Department of Immigration such as the Australian embassy or a consulate.
  • Pay the application fee upon lodgement of the visa. Ensure that you keep the receipt with your copy of the documents submitted as proof of payment and application.
