    7. Dangerous or Restricted Dogs
  • Restricted dogs are those of a restricted breed nominated under the legislation.
  • Owners of dogs that have been declared dangerous or restricted are required to adhere to specific requirements including:
    • the de-sexing of the dog;
    • that it wear a distinctive collar;
    • that it be housed in a proper enclosure;
    • that you display warning signs at any premises where the dog is kept;
    • when outside the enclosure the dog must be on a lead and have a muzzle; and
    • if you are in a public place the dog must be controlled by a person over the age of 16 years.
  • Breaching these requirements is an offence and can lead to the dog being seized (taken away) and the owner being fined.
  • If there is a breach of the requirements that results in the dog attacking or biting a person then you may be permanently disqualified from owning a dog or being in control of one in public.
