    10. Pest Animals
  • In most states and territories of Australia there are provisions in place that require land owners to control pests. For example all landholders in NSW have a legal obligation under the Rural Lands Protection Act 1998 (NSW) to eradicate noxious pest animals on land that they own, occupy or manage.
  • Rabbits, feral pigs, wild dogs, foxes and a number of locust species have been declared as noxious pests in NSW.
  • Mice are currently classified as nuisance animals in NSW and you are not obliged to control these species although your local land services office is able to provide you with advice if you have a rodent infestation problem.
  • Controlling pest animals through shooting and baiting programs requires you to be properly certified and accredited in order to undertake these activities. You should contact your local land services to check on the requirements for accreditation in your local area.
