  • People with a disability may be more prone to being victims of crime as often they are more vulnerable and less able to protect themselves. They may also be more likely to face barriers when attempting to access justice as the victim of a crime.
  • A person with a disability is entitled to the same assistance as any other victim of crime. More information on assistance to victims of crime can be found online at your state or territories' victims of crime website.
    • For example if you are a victim of crime and reside in Victoria you can find assistance at http://www.victimsofcrime.vic.gov.au/. Equivalent websites exist for other states and territories.
  • When participating in police interviews about being a victim of crime there are support services available to assist people with a disability.
  • When reporting a crime to the police you should notify the police of your disability and request that they direct you towards the relevant support services before you make a statement.
