Can I present my own case at a tribunal?

  • Yes. You can present your own case but you may wish for someone to assist you such as a family member or a lawyer.
  • The tribunal may suggest that you seek assistance in presenting your case and can make referrals for legal assistance.
  • QCAT has a ‘self-representing litigants service’ run by the community legal centre QPILCH which provides legal advice to people representing themselves in QCAT.
  • Other states have similar support through various Community Legal Centres and Legal Aid.
  • State tribunals are more likely to encourage you not to have legal representation as they try to create a less formal atmosphere.
  • If you are not confident about representing yourself our LegalPlan™ membership will allow you to ask lawyers for a Fixed-Fee Quote on your matter.
