What sorts of matters are good for mediation?

  • Mediation is best suited to matters where you want to preserve or maintain a relationship with the other person such as situations where you need or want to have an ongoing relationship with the other party. This may include disputes between a business and their customers, separated parents, neighbours, extended family members, disputes within cultural groups and disputes between friends.
  • Mediation offers this advantage because it is not adversarial (party versus party) and the process is designed to help you to communicate and get a better understanding about where the other person is coming from.
  • In some cases this process can be a really important step towards mending a damaged relationship, finding a resolution and moving forward.
