  • Commonwealth regulations set down specific accommodation requirements that you must provide for the crew of your vessel.
  • These regulations deal with things such as ventilation, sleeping rooms, legal head height and sanitary facilities.
  • As a ship owner you are prohibited from going out to sea unless your ship has a wheel house or an alternative form of shelter. Your ship must also conform to the prescribed ventilation standards.
  • You must not permit your ship to go to sea unless it is equipped with medicines and surgical supplies.
  • Where your ship is embarking on an overseas voyage with more than 100 people you are obliged to have a medical practitioner on board for the entire duration of the journey.
  • Prior to undertaking the voyage the master of the ship must ensure the vessel is loaded with sufficient water and food of appropriate quality for the trip’s duration and in regard to the number of crew members on board.
