    9. Project By-Law Scheme
  • This scheme is designed to encourage major investment projects in Australia.
  • It provides duty concessions for eligible goods imported for the purposes of large projects in a number of industries including:
    • agriculture;
    • food packaging;
    • food processing;
    • gas supply;
    • manufacturing;
    • mining;
    • power supply.
    • resource processing; and
    • water supply.
  • The importer must be importing goods for use in the project with an overall value in excess of $10 million and the importer must have an Australian Industry Participation Plan that sets out how the project will provide Australian industry with the opportunity to supply goods and services to it.
  • The concession is not available where Australian producers make goods of the same nature although there is an exception if the imported goods are more technologically advanced, have greater efficiency or are more productive than any equivalent product produced in Australia.
