- If your relationship ends there are a number of things you need to do.
- Steps need to be taken whether you are separating from a de-facto relationship, from a marriage or divorcing.
- You will need to address the following:
- make a note of the date of separation;
- make short term and long term arrangements for the care of your children; and
- divide your property and finances.
- The law requires you to ensure arrangements are in place for the immediate care of your children. This is called a short-term arrangement.
- You also need to ensure arrangements are in place for the care of your children in the long term.
- All assets and liabilities need to be divided up between you and your ex-partner.
