4. During-Relationship BFAs

- These often occur when parties delay in getting their BFA finalized before entering the relationship or do not appreciate the benefits of having one until they are in an established relationship.
- Sometimes this is because financial issues have already arisen between them and they hope the BFA will resolve the issues and give the parties comfort for the future.
- Circumstances where a BFA might be entered into during a relationship include:
- where one party receives an unexpected inheritance;
- one party has invested in a business against the other’s wishes; or
- the household structure has changed because one party’s children unexpectedly came to live with them.
