- When a risk assessment determines that a hazard poses an unacceptable risk of harm a PCBU must eliminate or minimise the risk so far as is reasonably practicable by doing one or more of the following:
- substituting the hazard with a lesser risk such as substituting the use of corrosive cleaning chemicals with non-corrosive chemicals;
- isolating the hazard from any person exposed to it such as placing cages around live electrical sites to prevent access and barriers around slippery spills; or
- by implementing engineering controls such as:
- placing guarding on machinery with exposed blades;
- administrative controls such as drafting safe work policies and procedures;
- providing regular training; and
- providing suitable personal protective equipment (PPE).
