  • Most states and territories have a conferencing scheme available to juvenile offenders.
  • These can be entered into during the course of a criminal trial or can be ordered by a judge or magistrate as part of a sentencing measure.
  • The schemes allow all relevant parties including the offender and the victim to attend a roundtable conference managed by a court-appointed justice co-ordinator.
  • The objective of the conference is to offer the young offender an opportunity for reform and rehabilitation by encouraging them to take responsibility for their actions in an environment that is less formal than a court room.
  • By participating in a conference you can avoid conviction. You should take it seriously as you are being given a second chance.
