- A final report will be prepared at the end of the commission. This report will be made publicly available.
- For some commissions or inquiries there will also be an interim report. There are some cases where findings may be released from time to time throughout the inquiry process.
- Each commission and inquiry will be different but there will always be a final report. This is an important document as it includes the findings and recommendations (advice and suggestions).
- Findings are the conclusions that the commission has made about certain facts.
- They will include information that has been found as a result of the investigation process.
- They are important as they will help to answer some of the questions that were set out as part of the purpose of the commission or inquiry.
- Recommendations are advice or suggestions about what can be changed or fixed so that the particular issue can be addressed.
- They are based on the findings.
- They may suggest reform addressing:
- policy;
- laws;
- administration; and
- governmental structures.
- The government does not have to implement the recommendations but there is still a public expectation that the recommendations will be taken seriously.
- The findings and recommendations are publicly available. Usually you can access these documents on the relevant government website.
