3. What is an In-House Counsel?

- An in-house counsel is a lawyer who acts for and provides legal advice to their company on legal issues in general.
- The in-house counsel is part of the business with in-depth knowledge of the company, its activities, strategies and any areas of risk that may need attention.
- An important part of a company’s risk management process is having an in-house lawyer to assist in identifying legal risks the company is facing or may face and also advise the company on how to deal with or mitigate (reduce) those risks.
- An in-house counsel may also be referred to as ‘legal counsel’, ‘corporate counsel’, ‘in-house lawyer’ or ‘general counsel’.
