14. Types of Sentences

- You may face the following sentences or a combination of these sentences:
- seizure and confiscation of drugs and other property such as equipment used in producing or using drugs;
- a fine payable within a certain time;
- a suspended sentence including a bond:
- if a sentence of imprisonment is within range the court will consider whether to suspend the sentence;
- this might be available for a young first offender with good prospects of rehabilitation;
- you enter a bond promising to be of good behaviour for the period of time set out in the bond and agree to comply with all conditions;
- you are then released to be supervised by a probation officer;
- if you adhere to the conditions of the bond for the period of time specified you will not go to prison;
- if you breach any conditions of the bond you can be charged with a breach offence; and
- you may have to serve out the rest of the original prison sentence and face a further penalty for breaching the bond; and
- imprisonment.
