    14. Types of Sentences
  • You may face the following sentences or a combination of these sentences:
    • seizure and confiscation of drugs and other property such as equipment used in producing or using drugs;
    • a fine payable within a certain time;
    • a suspended sentence including a bond:
      • if a sentence of imprisonment is within range the court will consider whether to suspend the sentence;
      • this might be available for a young first offender with good prospects of rehabilitation;
      • you enter a bond promising to be of good behaviour for the period of time set out in the bond and agree to comply with all conditions;
      • you are then released to be supervised by a probation officer;
      • if you adhere to the conditions of the bond for the period of time specified you will not go to prison;
      • if you breach any conditions of the bond you can be charged with a breach offence; and
      • you may have to serve out the rest of the original prison sentence and face a further penalty for breaching the bond; and
    • imprisonment.
