  • You should notify your insurance company about the accident as soon as possible. This is regardless of whether you intend to make a claim or not as it may affect your future claims or premiums.
  • Be clear as to whether you intend to lodge a claim or not.
  • You may choose not to lodge a claim if repairing your car or the other person’s car is likely to cost less than your excess (the amount you have to contribute to the insurer’s payment).
  • If you do wish to make a claim your insurance company will usually take over the process and contact the other driver or drivers on your behalf.
