    3. Being Involved in Accident
  • If you have been involved in a vehicle or motor accident the law requires you to stop and check if you, any of your passengers or anyone in other vehicle or vehicles are injured:
    • if someone is injured call the ambulance and the police; and
    • if one of the vehicles needs to be towed you should call the police.
  • You should exchange details with the other drivers involved in the accident. This includes:
    • their name;
    • their address;
    • the motor vehicle registration numbers;
    • insurer details (if any); and
    • contact numbers.
  • If you have a camera or smartphone you should take photos of the incident. You may also ask to photograph the person’s drivers licence. You should also obtain the details of any witnesses.
  • You should be aware of your legal rights and obtain advice from your insurer or solicitor before:
    • admitting liability or saying that the accident was your fault; or
    • negotiating with the other driver or drivers.
