- If you have been involved in a vehicle or motor accident the law requires you to stop and check if you, any of your passengers or anyone in other vehicle or vehicles are injured:
- if someone is injured call the ambulance and the police; and
- if one of the vehicles needs to be towed you should call the police.
- You should exchange details with the other drivers involved in the accident. This includes:
- their name;
- their address;
- the motor vehicle registration numbers;
- insurer details (if any); and
- contact numbers.
- If you have a camera or smartphone you should take photos of the incident. You may also ask to photograph the person’s drivers licence. You should also obtain the details of any witnesses.
- You should be aware of your legal rights and obtain advice from your insurer or solicitor before:
- admitting liability or saying that the accident was your fault; or
- negotiating with the other driver or drivers.
