My colleague was killed at work. Is my employer required to offer grief counselling?

Last month there was a horrific workplace accident in which my colleague was crushed under a machine. Most of us at the workplace have been struggling to cope with the loss. Does our employer have to provide us with grief counselling?

  • Legally no. Grief counselling will generally not be covered in a compensation claim lodged for your deceased colleague.
  • Some employers may still choose to offer grief counselling to their staff in the aftermath of an employee’s death.
