  • Some individuals and organisations are not required to comply with privacy law. The Australian privacy law does extend to cover:
    • state or territory government authorities and agencies such as public hospitals and health care facilities if they are covered under relevant state or territory legislation;
    • individuals who are acting in a personal capacity such as your neighbours;
    • public schools;
    • most universities except for private universities and the Australian National University;
    • the operators of small businesses except in certain situations;
    • media organisations acting in a journalistic capacity; and
    • registered political parties and their representatives.
