- Before leaving tenants should ensure that they have taken all belongings with them.
- Personal belongings include such things as:
- photographs;
- correspondence;
- official documents;
- computers;
- cameras; or
- other electronic devices.
- If any belongings are left behind a tenant can attempt to make arrangements with the landlord to pick them up.
- A landlord can't keep any personal belongings which a tenant has left behind either for their personal use or as 'security' for any unpaid rent.
- If the landlord attempts to do so a tenant may apply to the relevant tribunal for compensation.
