    5. Registrations and Licensing
  • Depending on what kind of business you operate and what industry you are engaged in there is likely to be a range of registrations and licensing requirements that will apply.
  • These licenses are imposed by various levels of government from local to commonwealth.
  • Registrations and licensing requirements regulate the way businesses operate if business activities involve for example:
  • public safety;
  • compliant use of public space;
  • building and planning;
  • employment related activities; and
  • advertising and signage.
  • Ensuring that you have all the required registrations and licenses is essential. If you fail to do so you risk your business being closed or subject to penalties.
  • The Australian Government provides a detailed guide on the types of permits, registrations and licenses that you may need. The guide is divided into categories to make it more accessible. This is called the Australian Business and Licenses Information Service (ABLIS): https://ablis.business.gov.au/pages/home.aspx
