Can partners, family or friends attend court proceedings?
- Ordinarily any member of the public can attend a hearing including partners, family and friends. This will also include representatives of the media and anyone else who may be interested in the subject matter of the proceedings.
- The judge may decide to clear the court if particularly sensitive evidence is about to be presented. This may happen in cases where a victim of sexual assault is testifying.
