Are travel agents required to comply with Australian Consumer Law?

  • All Australian businesses are required to comply with Australian Consumer Law.
  • This includes travel agents.
  • This means that they must not:
  • act unconscionably (immorally);
  • make false or misleading representations (statements) to travellers; or
  • mislead or deceive travellers.
  • They must also ensure that:
    • all marketing and promotional material is true and correct;
    • they inform travellers about changes or increases in costs as soon as possible; and
    • quote accurate prices including clearly identifying any surcharges that may be payable.
