What is the offence of robbery?
- Robbery is when a theft is committed and the accused uses or threatens to use force either:
- during the act of the theft; or
- in order to escape from the scene of the offence.
- The maximum penalty for robbery is imprisonment for 15 years.
- Where a weapon is used the offence is armed robbery and the maximum penalty is 25 years imprisonment.
