Do I get to speak to the magistrate or judge?

  • If you are self-represented then you can speak on your own behalf throughout your case.
  • If you have a lawyer representing you then it is their job to get your instructions and to speak on your behalf to the magistrate or judge.
  • If there is something you want said in court you can instruct your lawyer about it. They will then give you advice as to when is the best time to raise the issue.
  • If you are addressing a magistrate or judge directly you should always call them “Your Honour.”
