Is a travel agent responsible for ensuring that frequent flyer memberships are used and points accredited?

We booked our last family holiday through a travel agent. We were so rushed for time and stressed with other issues that we totally forgot about our frequent flyer memberships. The travel agent did nothing to inform us of the eligibility of claiming the points.

  • Travel agents are not responsible for advising travellers about frequent flyer programs or for ensuring that frequent flyer points are credited to a travellers account.
  • Travellers themselves are responsible for joining and collecting points for frequent flyer programs if that is what they wish to do.
