How long does it take and how much does it cost to publish an online notice?

I've decided to organise the grant of probate myself instead of seeing a lawyer because the estate is really simple. The beneficiaries under the will are asking me how long it takes to publish the notice and how much it will cost so that they know how much will be taken out of the estate?

  • It takes approximately 30 minutes for an online notice publication.
  • The court filing fees depend on the value of the estate. As of the 1 July 2014 the fees are as follows:
    • estates under $100,000 – nil;
    • estates from $100,001 to $250,000 - $685;
    • estates from $250,001 to $500,000 - $949;
    • estates from $500,001 to $1,000,000 - $1,424;
    • estates from $1,000,001 to $2,000,000 - $1,899;
    • estates from $2,000,001 to $5,000,000 - $3,164; and
    • estates more than $5,000,000 - $5,274.
  • These fees are regularly reviewed so it is always advisable to check on the Supreme Court website to confirm the amount of the current fee.
