Can someone attend the hearing with me?

One of my children has recently applied for Guardianship over me as I am elderly. I do not believe I need anyone to make my decisions for me so I am fighting this application. I am in a wheelchair and I receive daily support from my nurse. I wish for her to attend the session not only so she can physically support me in the hearing but also because she can make arguments on my behalf as she knows me and my situation well.

  • Your nurse will be able to attend the session with you.
  • Hearings are usually open to the public and anyone can attend.
  • Even if the hearing is closed the tribunal will let you bring along a support person and your nurse can be considered your support person.
  • Your nurse could also be considered a witness if she is going to bring or substantiate any evidence to support your defence.
  • The tribunal can further arrange for an interpreter if one is required. This service can also assist you if you have a hearing impairment.
