Will the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse award compensation?

I am thinking about telling my story at this commission but it will be difficult and painful. I want to know more about what will come out of the whole thing. Will the commission grant us compensation for the damage caused?

  • The terms of reference of this commission do not include a power to award compensation to victims.
  • In the final report it is likely that the commission will make recommendations about a national compensation or redress scheme for victims.
  • It will be the government’s choice whether to adopt the recommendations.
