Can the government shut down a commission?

The labor government set up the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses into Child Sexual Abuse. Now that we have a liberal government I am worried that they will shut down the commission before I have had a chance to go and tell my story.

  • Once a commission has been set up then it is bound by the terms of reference. This document will clearly state the date for completion.
  • The government cannot shut down a commission simply because it does not like or agree with its investigations or findings.
