What should I do if an overseas lawyer requests documents from me?

I have been talking with a foreign lawyer about representing me overseas and they have requested certain documents including confidential information from me. What should I do?

  • Ask the lawyer what they need the documents for and what they are going to do with them.
  • Ask if certified copies of the documents will be acceptable.
  • You can have documents certified by a justice of the peace or a solicitor or at the local court.
  • If original documents are necessary have certified copies prepared for yourself to keep and make an electronic copy of the originals prior to sending them.
