My Legal Aid lawyer has asked me to pay their invoice. What should I do?

The lawyer I requested through Legal Aid sent me a bill recently on their letterhead. I thought Legal Aid was covering the costs of this lawyer?

  • If your grant of legal assistance covers all your legal costs then private Legal Aid lawyers are not allowed to ask you to pay their invoices. Lawyers are paid directly by Legal Aid.
  • If you have been asked to pay an invoice you should contact Legal Aid immediately.
