Do I need a private lawyer?

I have a claim for workers compensation. The government lawyer handling my case for WorkCover has been very helpful. Do I really need to waste time and money getting my own lawyer?

  • While many of the government lawyers who represent the government act fairly and properly when dealing with members of the public the fact remains that they serve the government not you.
  • They will be seeking to get the best outcome for the government whereas your own lawyer will try to get an outcome that is in your best interests.
  • It may seem like a lot of hassle and expense to find your own lawyer. However they have the expertise and knowledge to know what you are entitled to. They can also advise you if the government lawyer handling your claim has acted properly.
  • It may seem unnecessary now but getting your own lawyer could save you a lot of time and money in the long run.
