What kind of compensation can I claim if I have been injured in service?

I was quite badly injured while in service. I will be requiring rehabilitation and I’m wondering whether the ADF has some kind of insurance scheme?

  • As with other workers you are entitled to claim compensation for injuries sustained in your service to the ADF.
  • The ADF has a Military Compensation Scheme that provides compensation and rehabilitation support for members and former members of the ADF.
  • There is also the Military Compensation and Rehabilitation Service (MCRS) that manages compensation claims rehabilitation services.
  • The MCRS also provides transition management services to assist ADF members who have been discharged on medical grounds to transition successfully back to civilian life.
  • If you have been injured in service please see your lawyer for your likely entitlements and any waiting periods.
  • For all other types of entitlements and benefits you may also visit the Department of Veterans’ Affairs website at http://www.dva.gov.au/Pages/home.aspx where you can do a self-assessment for any potential entitlements. You may also use this website for information regarding benefits, services, pensions and compensations and how you can make a claim.
