Is there an alternative dispute resolution process?

I am currently having a dispute with a colleague. I don’t think the issue is serious enough to make a formal complaint, and I don’t think either of us has committed any offences. Is there any other way I can try and deal with this dispute?

  • Yes. If you are concerned with unacceptable behaviour in the workplace you may contact the Alternative Resolutions and Equity (ARE) branch of the Department of Defence.
  • ARE provides advice on unacceptable behaviour, case management and coordinates the provision of conflict coaching and mediation.
  • You can contact them on 1800 DEFENCE Monday to Friday 7am to 10pm. If you are overseas contact (+61 2) 6455 1440.
  • Please note that ARE services are only available for ADF members. For more information visit: http://www.defence.gov.au/ARE/.
  • The Values, Behaviours and Resolutions Branch of the Department of Defence also provides advice and options for the management of workplace disputes through Alternative Dispute Resolutions. Their contact details are:
