Is there a pre-trial confinement?

I have been charged with an offence. I’m wondering whether I will be put in custody before my trial and if so, what rights I have and what conditions I will be under.

  • Yes. You may be taken into custody while investigations are underway with respect to an alleged offence.
  • While in custody you have the right to be treated with humanity and not to be subjected to cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment.
  • You are entitled to medical treatment.
  • You are also entitled to bathroom facilities and refreshments and to an interpreter if your English is limited or if you are disabled.
