My CLC wants to refer me to an external lawyer. Are they any good?

I had an appointment at my local Community Legal Centre about my case. I am disagreeing with a debt that a hire car place says I owe. I have given the CLC all my documents. They have just told me that they cannot help me with my case but that they will pass it on to an external lawyer. They have told me that this lawyer will not charge me fees. I am a bit worried as I really need to win this case. What kind of lawyer would want to work for free?

  • Many solicitors and barristers want to donate some of their time to pro bono work as it is interesting and fulfilling. It is their way of contributing to the community.
  • A number of the top law firms in Australia regularly send their lawyers to help Community Legal Centres with their cases.
  • These lawyers will give you legal advice and represent you to the same standard that they would if they were being paid.
