How will my treatment costs be met?

I'm eligible to apply for treatment in relation to a broken hip that I sustained during service. The up-front costs are set to be quite high for the surgery. I'm wondering how the costs will be met and whether I have to pay up-front?

  • Depending on your condition and which scheme applies the costs of treatment are most likely to be met by way of reimbursement from the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) or through using your repatriation health card if you have one.
  • However if it is necessary and you can't afford to pay up-front and wait for a reimbursement later then DVA may arrange for treating doctors or pharmacists to invoice the DVA directly.
  • You should contact the DVA to make these arrangements and to find out if you are eligible for a repatriation health card.
