Am I entitled to medical treatment for my non-service-related medical conditions?

I've been out of the service for a few years. Some of my medical issues are directly related to my time in the defence forces but some others are not. My main problem at the moment is that I have just been diagnosed with lung cancer. Is it possible that this sort of condition can be covered by a veterans' scheme?

  • Treatment for some specific conditions may be provided even when it was not caused by service. Those people who have been diagnosed with the following conditions can apply to have their treatment covered to the extent to which they are eligible:
    • malignant cancer;
    • post traumatic stress disorder;
    • anxiety and depressive disorders; or
    • pulmonary tuberculosis.
  • You are advised to contact the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) or a lawyer to discuss your eligibility and make a claim.
