What kind of questions might I be asked at my protection visa interview with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection?

I would like some advice about what questions I may be asked at my interview so that I can prepare my responses.

  • Be ready to talk about your home country and why you left.
  • You will need to talk about why you are afraid to return to your home country.
  • You may be asked for further details about the events you described in your visa application.
  • The interviewer will also ask questions to see if you are telling the truth.
  • It might help to write down answers to these questions before you go to the interview to help you prepare (do not bring these to the interview).
  • The interviewer may bring to your attention any information they have received that is negative to your application.
    • If you do not want to answer this question on the spot you can ask if you can write a letter in response.
  • The interview may be nerve wracking but remember that all you need to do is tell the truth.
  • The interviewer is just trying to see if what you wrote in your visa application is true. If it is there is no reason to be nervous.
