I arrived illegally by boat and am now living in the community on a Bridging Visa E. What do I need to do while waiting to apply for a Temporary Protection Visa?

- You can continue to live in the Australian community on your bridging visa.
- You can start preparing your claim for a Temporary Protection Visa by:
- making sure you have original and genuine documents confirming your identity, nationality and citizenship; and
- gathering other documents that show why you should receive protection.
- You should also sign the Code of Behaviour if you have not already done so.
- The Code of Behaviour explains how you are expected to behave while living in the Australian community. For example:
- not taking part in criminal behaviour;
- cooperating with reasonable requests from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection; and
- not bullying or harassing another person or group of people.
