Who is eligible for a community liquor licence?

I am part of a theatre group and we are trying to organise our end of year party. We would like to host a gala dinner and serve alcohol. It is a one off event. Are we eligible for a community liquor licence so that we can serve alcohol?

  • It is likely that you would be eligible for a community liquor licence for this event.
  • A community liquor licence will only be approved to someone on behalf of your organisation if they are over the age of 18 years.
  • In most cases applications for a licence must be lodged 21 days before the event date but you will need to check the law where you live.
  • Organisers of the event are encouraged to lodge the application early to make sure there is enough time for any negotiation about the suitability of selling and supplying conditions for the event.
  • Lodging the licence application does not mean your application will be approved.
  • If you decide to advertise or promote your event before you have been granted a licence then you do this at your own risk.
  • These types of licence applications are usually processed within 7 working days. Applications may take longer in cases where the application is incomplete or if it is seen as a high-risk application.
