What if I plan to stage my event in a public place?

We would like to hold an arts and crafts market on the football oval in the centre of town. It is a public oval that everyone can access and use. Do I need to get permission first?

  • If you are holding your function in a public place or at a type of venue that is under the control of a municipal council you must seek council approval before the event.
  • In some cases approval may be provided over the telephone.
    • You may need to give details of the representative who granted approval.
  • In other cases you may need to submit a written application in person for approval.
  • In your case it is quite a big event that will likely impact on the general public so you will probably need to provide a written application. The best thing is to contact your local council and find about their licencing rules and processes so you can apply.
