We are organising a big birthday party for my best friend. There are going to be a lot of people as we have put an open invitation on Facebook. There is going to be a couple of cocktail stands in the marquee with a lot of different kinds of alcohol and a big band. Do we need a liquor permit to do this?

- No. There is not a requirement that you have a liquor licence for a private party.
- You will need to make sure that you are:
- supplying the alcohol free of charge;
- your guests have not paid a cover charge; and
- you are not making a profit from the party.
- If you are unsure then you should check the law in your state or territory.
